The construction of Red Sun began last month. The factory is a joint project of the Ho Chi Minh City Energy Conservation Center and the Red Sun Energy Company.

The factory, located in Duc Hoa District in the southern province of Long An, will be built in two phases with total capital estimated at US$10 million.

In line with international standards, the company’s solar panels have an estimated life span of 20 years and come with a five-year warranty.

The widespread use of solar energy in many developed countries means that solar panels are no longer a high-tech product, said Mr. Huynh Kim Tuoc, director of the Energy Conservation Center. The company intends to export 60 percent of its products, he added.

Scientists at Vietnam National University are conducting research on solar panel production in cooperation with the city’s Department of Science and Technology.

The solar energy technology has been shown to be a good choice for Viet Nam. Many regions, especially in the South, enjoy a high level of radiation from the sun. In addition, capital expenditure for solar energy is lower than for other energy sources.
