DNS Server of PAvietnam has been changed by hackers

The hackers snuck into the domain server of PAVietnam and changed codes to redirect users so that they receive a Web site different than the one they expect.

When users attempted to connect to www.5giay.com, they were redirected to Google or Yahoo. If users tried to view pavietnam.net or pavietnam.com, they would view VnExpress, an electronic newspaper, instead.

Mr. Huynh Viet Phuong, director of PA Vietnam Ltd, admitted that PAvietnam’s server had been attacked by hackers.

While testing the server, Mr. Nguyen Tu Quang, director of Bach Khoa Internet Securities (BKIS), found that three main domain names of PAvietnam, namely PAvietnam.net, PAvietnam.com and dotvnds.com had been hacked.

The hosting address of PA Vietnam Ltd was changed to into a new one located at the IP: 74.200.202.215 by the hackers.

However, Mr. Quang affirmed that the attack did not take advantage of a dangerous security gap which has alarmed the Internet community recently.

PAvietnam has fixed 35 percent of 2000 domains name that were attacked. The three main domain names are free from hackers also.

Mr. Phuong admitted that there had been a lot of troubles for the enterprises who use domain names hosted by PAvietnam during the attack. He also expected that all the Web sites hosted by his company will be operational starting Tuesday.

In other news, many more Web sites have been attacked, including those of Techcombank and Viet Nam Cable Television.

Most of hackers involved are believed to be Vietnamese or at least residents in Viet Nam.

BKIS and the Ministry of Public Security plan to keep a close watch on the Internet community, said Mr. Quang.
