Da Nang Hosts Techmart Viet Nam 2007

The 2007 edition of the Techmart Viet Nam technology and equipment fair officially opened yesterday at the International Exhibition-Fair Center in Da Nang.

More than 2,000 technologies, machines, devices and solutions from 420 Vietnamese and foreign companies are on display, including plenty from China, Japan, Korea and Israel.

Among the notable exhibits are five inventions by ‘barefoot scientists’ (a term describing technically minded wizards who didn’t finish high school).

They include an automated Ferris wheel dreamed up by Dam Van Vinh, a floor cleaner from Thai Quoc Huy and a wind-powered water pump by Pham Quang Huy. All three are in the running for the Techmart 2007 Golden Cup.

To quote the organizers, “Techmart is an annual fair for local and international technology and equipment suppliers with the primary goals of encouraging technology transfer, coordinating research with production and development of the technology market, and speeding up the country’s industrialization and modernization”.

This year’s organizers are the Ministry of Science and Technology, as always, and the People’s Committee of the central coast city.
