According to event organizers, over 20,000 questions have been sent to the Prime Minister via the www.chinhphu.vn, www.dangcongsan.vn and www.vietnamnet.vn websites.

With only two and a half hours to respond, the Prime Minister will surely be unable to answer all the questions posted, however, the people will still be pleased by his attempt to communicate with them at a grassroots level. The questions will shed a good deal of light on the opinions of ordinary people, providing reference points that the Government can use for both the decision-making process, and as a means of gauging the effects of current policies on people’s lives

The new medium of exchange opens up a new path for communication to flow in both directions, engaging the general public with authorities from all levels of government, who will join the discussion whenever there is a hot issue on the table.

The shear volume of questions received for the event proves that the Vietnamese people, especially the younger portion of the population, care deeply about the country’s current affairs and are willing to join hands to help the country prosper.

If organized regularly, online answer sessions will empower the public to take a more active role in the development of their country, and by talking directly with the people, the Government will show its commitment to the idea encapsulated in the phrase "the people know, the people discuss".

For all these reasons, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s first foray into the online world marks a turning point in the process of building a government "for the people and by the people."
