Tropical depression to trigger heavy rainfall in northern region

A tropical low pressure system will make landfall in northern provinces from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong city and trigger medium to heavy rainfall in the northern and north central region this afternoon, according to National Hydro Meteorological Forecasting Center.

This morning, the system was located 130 kilometer east southeast off Quang Ninh-Hai Phong coast. Under influence of the system, Bach Long Vi island in Hai Phong city saw strong winds of level 6-7 moving 40-60 kilometers an hour.
Coastal provinces have seen medium to heavy rainfall. Precipitation measures 24mm in Thai Binh province, 47mm in Ha Nam and 62mm in Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province.
In the next 12 hours, the system is forecast to move west northwest at 20-25 kilometers an hour to go in the mainland from Quang Ninh to Hai Phong.
By 7 p.m., it will be in the northern mountainous region with the strongest winds reducing to level 6 moving less than 40 kilometers an hour. In the next 12-24 hours, the system will move west northwest and weaken into a low pressure zone before getting over.
The center has warned mountainous areas in Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Thai Nguyen and Tuyen Quang provinces against flash flood and landslide. A small flood might occur in the upper reaches of Lo and Thai Binh rivers.
