Yesterday, the first northeastern monsoon hit the country, causing a torrential rain on the large scale.
The heavy rain and flash flood destroyed two houses and 10 hectares of rice crops in Van Yen district of Yen Bai province.
There were 40 landslide points in Lai Chau province with total damage of VND 40 billion.
From September 10- 12, the weather in the northern region is forecast to become cooler. Additionally, the northern region will continue suffering long- lasting downpours because of an influence of northeastern monsoon compressed a low pressure trough.
The National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control warned that the flood level could rise sharply in the northern region’s rivers; landslide, flash flood and heavy rain would respectively appear in the northern mountainous provinces. The highest rainfall in the locality could be at 300 mm.
This is the fourth time that the Son La Hydroelectric Power Plant has opened its sluice gates to discharge water in this year’s flooding season.
In order to actively deal with the current weather condition and absolutely limit damages after the flash flood, the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control asked the provinces of Son La, Hoa Binh, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Thai Binh, Bac Ninh, Hai Duong, Hai Phong and Hanoi capital to eye and provide information on water release to authorities and people to ensure safety for their life and production.
