North continues suffering extreme cold airs since mid- January

According to the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, long- lasting damaging colds are expected to operate powerfully in the northern region of Vietnam since the mid- January while both the Central Highlands and southern region are warned to suffer unseasonal rains this month.

Up to now, both the northern and central regions have experienced massive cold air during a week, causing fog blanket and occurrence of glacial ice in the high mountainous areas of Mau Son (Lang Son), Phia Oac (Cao Bang), Meo Vac (Ha Giang), Y Ty and Ngai Thau (Bat Xat- Lao Cai) and Mu Cang Chai (Yen Bai) etc etc…

The temperature in Ha Noi and the Red Delta region dropped down 9 degrees Celsius. The weather experts predicted that the damaging colds would last by March, 2018.

According to a report from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development,  if the long- lasting damaging cold extremely hits the country as 2008, the outside temperature will influence in cattle’s body temperature and be predicted to kill more than 200,000 cattle and buffaloes.

Mr. Tong Xuan Chinh, Deputy General Director of Livestock Production Department under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the functional agencies have just planned for dealing with damaging cold in cattle.

Because the damaging cold appeared in the high mountainous peaks, it did not influence in trees in the Northern delta region. 

Currently, the Livestock Production Department calls on framers to have necessary measures in protecting vegetable crops.

In order to actively deal with the weather condition, the agency sent a message to the departments of agriculture and rural development of the Northern provinces about plans for 2017- 2018 winter- spring harvest.

The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center also reported that the southern territorial water of the East Sea including the Spratly Islands and the waters from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau experienced showery weather and thunderstorm.

Today, the localities will continue suffering  small rains, cyclone and thunderstorms on the large scale.

Because of an influence of cold air, the northern territorial waters of the East Sea will see powerful winds of level 6-8, big wave of 3-5 meters and sea rough while the southern offshore waters, the mid and South- East Sea is expected to see the northwest monsoon of level 5-8, big waves of 2-4 meters and sea rough.
