New tropical depression appears in offshore Philippines

According to the Asia Pacific Region International Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Centers, a new tropical depression yesterday appeared in the eastward of the Philippines.

Its eye was centered at 9-11 degrees north latitude and 135- 137 degrees east longitude while typhoon Khanun was located at the Leizhou Island of China yesterday evening, mapped the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center. 

Due to an impact of the cold front, the tropical storm is forecast to change its direction to the southward after it will enter Hainan Island of China. 

By this evening, typhoon Khanun will be at 110 kilometers of the east- southeastward of the Bach Long Vi Island with its maximum wind of level 9-13. 

Then, it will continue moving the southwestward at a speed of 5-10 kilometers per hour and weaken into the tropical- low pressure zone.

By evening tomorrow, the tropical depression will be located in the central territorial waters from Quang Binh to Quang Tri provinces.

The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center also warned that downpours would shoulder over the mainland due to the influence of the storm circulation and cold spell. 

Besides that, a cold front is spreading out the northern region of Vietnam.

From the midnight, the temperature in the northern mountainous provinces will reduce sharply at 16- 19 degrees Celsius. 

Meanwhile, the weather condition in the south- East Sea including the Spratly Island, the southern territorial waters from Binh Thuan to Ca Mau, from Ca Mau to Kien Giang provinces and the southern region will experience medium- heavy rains and thunderstorms on the large scale. 

According to the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention, Rescue and Search, a historical flooding caused 102 dead and missing by the end of October 14. 

Initial statistic showed that the natural disaster destroyed 46,398 houses; killed around 250,773 poultry.

The Water Resource Directorate under Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said that the serious flooding have also occurred in the provinces of Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh and Thai Binh provinces.

Province of Hoa Binh launched an emergency announcement on landslide in its districts of Kim Boi, Tan Lac, Da Bac, Lac Son, Mai Chau and Ky Son.

Amid to the complicated weather condition, the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention asked the affected localities to help the residents in overcoming consequences in the northern and north- central provinces, eying on the current weather situation to timely provide information to vessels out of the dangerous zones, and protecting the local dyke systems along rivers and sea. 

The national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines (VNA) yesterday cancelled five flights connecting Hanoi/ Ho Chi Minh City and Hong Kong (China) because of an influence of typhoon Khanun.
