Mekong flooding rising quickly to warning level two

The National Center for Hydro Meteorological Forecasting said on August 28, the water level in Mekong River is rising. The water level will peak at 3.93m at Tan Chau Station on the Tien River on August 27, below warning level two at 0.07m; on the Hau River at Chau Doc Station at 3.47m.

Due to flooding in the upper section flowing in accompanied by high tides caused the rising water level.

On September 1, the water level will reach its peak at 4.2m at Tan Chau Station and 3.7m at Chau Doc Station, forecast center.

At present, the districts in the upper stream of An Giang province and Dong Thap province are keeping a close watch on the progress of floods. The authorities are also mobilizing forces to repair the dyke systems in the lowland areas.

The floods may occur therefore the craft villages which produce tools to fishing are speeding up production to meet local people’s demand.
