Massive cold weather and frost hit northern region

According to the National Hydrology Forecast Center, temperature in the Northern provinces dropped rapidly at 9 degrees Celsius since yesterday morning.

The lowest temperature in Sa Pa (Lao Cai) and Moc Chau ( Son La) was measured at 4.2- 4.8 degrees Celsius while minimum temperature of below minus 0.3 degrees Celsius caused frost appearance in high mountainous areas of Mau Son (Lang Son province) and Meo Vac town (Ha Giang province).

This is the first time that frost occurred in the localities. 

Yesterday evening, the cold front spread out the southern region which impacted to weather condition in the south part of the central region and the central offshore waters. 

Today, the cold air mass is predicted to hit some places of the Central Highlands and the southeastern region. 

Because of its influence, medium- heavy rains are forecast to hit the mid- central provinces in the evening or the early morning. 

From January 10- 14, both the north and north- central region are predicted to experience a long- lasting damaging cold, even frost occurrence in the mountainous areas. The lowest temperature in Red Delta region could reach at 8-11 degrees Celsius, at 3- 8 degrees Celsius in the high mountainous areas. 

The lowest temperature in Hanoi will maintain at 8- 11 degrees Celsius.
