Currently, water levels on the Cuu Long (Mekong) river and Sai Gon river are following high tides, and expected to reach the highest level on February 21- 22.
As forecast, the water level on Sai Gon river at Phu An station could reach alert level 2 to level 3. Therefore, residents of Ho Chi Minh City may face a risk of serious flooding in some streets, residential and low- lying areas along rivers and canal banks.
On the same day, the Standing Office of the Central Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention and Control reported damages after risks of hail and thunderstorm on the large scale in the Northern region within recent days.
By 5pm yesterday, seven injured persons were reported after the natural disaster.
Statistics showed that hail and thunderstorm damaged more than 3,600 houses, 17 schools, eight classrooms, 12 functional rooms, one medical station,10 cultural houses, hundreds of rice and vegetable crops, around 1,597 poultry and 27 electric poles in provinces of Lao Cai, Thai Nguyen, Bac Kan and Tuyen Quang with an initial damage of about VND 16 billion.
