Frost covers montane forests in north

The National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center reported that a long- lasting damaging cold would hit the northern region of Vietnam by January 14.

Currently, the cold air surged to the southeastern and southern provinces. 

Trees and branches in the montane forests were covered with frost and glacial ice because of an influence by strong waves of cold air from Asian continent.

At 5pm yesterday, the lowest temperature in Lung Thau commune area of Bat Xat district in Lao Cai province dropped down 0- 1 degrees Celsius. 

Frost covered over forests along mountain pass of Khau Pha in Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai. The lowest temperature in area was measured at 1 degrees Celsius. 

Additionally, the phenomenon also appeared in mountainous area of Phia Oac, Nguyen Binh district, Cao Bang; Meo Vac town of Ha Giang; and high mountainous region of Mau Son (Lang Son).
