Extreme cold to last by February 8

According to the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center, a massive cold wave is expected to hit the northern and the central regions starting February 5. 

Because of its influence, the powerful cold wave will continue shouldering over the northern region and the provinces from Thanh Hoa to Thua Thien- Hue in the upcoming days. 

Frost and glacial ice are forecast to hit the high mountainous provinces of Lao Cai, Son La, Cao Bang, Lang Son, Ha Giang.

The lowest temperature in the northern delta region including Hanoi can reach at 8-11 degrees Celsius, even drop down below 3 degrees Celsius.

Vice Director of the National Hydrology Meteorology Forecast Center Le Thanh Hai said that the weather situation is expected to last by February 8 (on December 23 of the lunar calendar).

By February 15, the long- lasting damaging cold will spread out some places and cause frost appearance. 

Amid to the weather condition, the National Steering Committee on Natural Disaster Prevention asked the affected localities to plan and prepare for necessary measures in order to protect poultry and cattle.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City enjoys sunny weather with maximum temperature of 30-31 degrees Celsius.
