Yesterday, the depression was located at 9 – 10 degrees north and 119-120 degrees east around central Philippines, and packed winds registered between six and seven on the Beaufort Scale.

During the next 24 hours, it is forecast to move northwest by west at 15-20kph and hit the Spratly Archipelago this afternoon. Moreover, the depression may intensify and develop into a typhoon, said Mr. Bui Minh Tang, the center’s director.

The National Steering Committee for Storm and Flood Control has ordered relevant authorities from the central Da Nang City to southernmost Ca Mau Province to promptly warn fishing vessels out at sea to find safety harbors.

Hot and muggy weather will persist in south-central Viet Nam, Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta until tomorrow. In some areas, the temperatures may reach 36 to 37 Celsius degrees with scorching sun from 8:am to 5:pm, said Deputy Head of the Southern Regional Hydro-Meteorological Center’s Forecasting Department Le Thi Xuan Lan.

Deputy Director of the Central Hydro-meteorological Forecast Center Duong Lien Chau said central provinces are under the threat of another year of heavy storms and record flooding like last year.

As the weather may take unexpected turns this year, local officials and inhabitants are asked to be on high alert for weather changes and take active preparatory measures.
