654 fishing vessels operating in territorial waters of Quang Ngai amid storm

The Standing Office of Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue of Quang Ngai province this morning updated the situation as well as the progress of carrying out measures against typhoon Podul very close to mainland provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Binh.

At 7am today, there have been total 654 vessels with around 6,369 employees in fisheries, including 79 boats with 563 fishermen outside the Paracel Islands, 293 fishing vessels with 3,828 employees in the Spratly Islands, 34 ships with total 309 fishermen in the northern territorial water, 68 vessels carrying 597 employees in the southern fishery and 180 ones with 1,072 people working in the territorial water of Quang Ngai. 

Amid the current complicated weather condition, the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, Search and Rescue asked the relevant departments, agencies and affected localities to deploy measures dealing with this year’s fourth typhoon hitting Vietnam; required the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development instructed the localities to urgently protect agricultural production.

Besides that, the local authorities are recommended to keep in touch with fishing vessels operating on the sea, update the latest weather news on sea and mainland to instruct safe anchor positions for all vessels, even ban vessels going out to sea in case of the bad weather.
