That was heard at a seminar entitled “Mekong Delta grows rice and raises tra fish in sustainable direction,” hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and Can Tho City’s People Committee on Monday.

Delegates at the seminar suggested that the state should develop a cooperative economic form for the production of rice. This then would create a better condition for investment in production and consumption.

The private sector should be encouraged to attend and assist with rice development, to enhance cultivation skills and production mechanization. This would also aim at building certain brand names and market information for Vietnamese rice.

Especially, relevant officials should develop a mechanism ensuring that rice growers’ income increase substantially.

According to some individuals, the state should promulgate a fish raising process, which will ensure food quality, safety and hygiene, and protect the environment to all international standards.

Additionally, Vietnam should adhere to national and technical standards, with regard to tra fish, and to invest further in quality production and trading.
