Widespread aid reaches victims of Storm Wutip

In response to an appeal by the Vietnamese Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City to help victims of Storm Wutip in the central provinces, nearly 300 individuals and companies have so far contributed more than VND1.6 billion and 6.7 tons of essential goods, such as instant noodles, milk, and clothing.

Along with an advance from the city budget, the committee has spent nearly VND 5.8 billion to assist storm victims in Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Thua Thien-Hue Provinces.

The Central Vietnam Youth Federation on Tuesday kicked off voluntary programs for winter of 2013 and spring of 2014 to help in tackling the devastation left by Storm Wutip. The Federation also handed out more than VND900 million for victims of Storm Wutip.

The General Department of Security II under the Ministry of Public Security held a meeting to raise funds for storm victims in the central provinces. The sum of VND213.5 million was given by the department officials.

The International Federation of Red Cross on Monday called for assistance from the international community to mobilize 2,114,739 Swiss francs (US$2.3 million) to help Vietnam to deliver emergency aid to 37,500 victims following the widespread destruction caused by the storm.

The Ministry of Transport said that its staff have so far donated more than VND2.1 billion while the Ministry of Construction has collected nearly VND500 million.
