According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, this is the first time that Vietnam has organized the week. Earlier, the Prime Minister issued Decision 173/2019 / QD-TTg on choosing the week from May 15 to May 22 annually as the National Week for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control.
Attending in the launching ceremony were more than 1,000 delegates, who were leaders of the Government, the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the National Committee for Disaster Preparedness and Search and Rescue and authorities at all levels of Hai Phong city and representatives of 20 nationwide provinces and cities.
The leader suggested each person should always raise awareness and actively adapt to natural disaster preparedness. Besides, the authorities at all levels are always ready for coping with natural disasters to ensure safety for people's lives and properties, prevent consequences of natural disasters.
Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung also required ministries and localities to complete regulations and policies related to natural disaster prevention, search and rescue; need to have specific policies to encourage enterprises, organizations and individuals to join hand in natural disaster prevention, especially in studying scientific application, construction investment, public service provision and insurance related to disaster risks.
Additionally, infrastructures, river and sea dyke systems, reservoirs, anchorage areas for ships, auto monitoring systems and forecast equipment need to be early invested and improved because these are considered as major tasks for natural disaster prevention.
