The Washington Governor made the remark while meeting with Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee Le Hoang Quan in the city on Sept. 23, stressing that education cooperation was the key area of her current visit to Vietnam.

She expressed her hope that more students from Vietnam would study at Washington ’s universities. Moreover, professors from her state and Vietnam would exchange visits to share teaching experiences.

At present, about 1,200 Vietnames students are studying in Washington.

The Washington state’s head also said that many enterprises in her state want to set up trade relations with Vietnamese partners.

For his part, the HCM City leader praised the position and economic potential of Washington State, which has many leading corporations and enterprises of the US, involving agriculture, farm produce processing, education and technology. With this strong market attraction, HCM City wants to seek cooperation opportunities.

He said cooperation between HCM City and the US has seen strong development. The evidence was that many leading universities and education centres from the US are present in the city or setting up relations with Ho Chi Minh City ’s universities.

Quan pledged to create favourable conditions for the city’s agencies and units to cooperate with partners from Washington state in economics, trade, education and training, culture, technology and agriculture.

Both host and guest highly valued the role of the Vietnamese community in Washington state, which is described as a bridge for friendship between Vietnam and the US in general and between Ho Chi Minh City and Washington state in particular.

Washington state ranks third in the US in having a large number of Vietnamese people, at nearly 50,000.
