The project on application of remote sensing information technology into the agricultural production has been implemented in ten provinces of Mekong Delta region since 2012.

Its significant content is the use of satellite remote sensing data to eye processing of rice cultivation in the Red River Delta and the Mekong Delta.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung, Director of the National Institute of Agricultural Planning and Projection, the project on application of remote sensing information technology into the agricultural production has been implemented in ten provinces of Mekong Delta region since 2012, including two phases and aiming at supervising donation from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation and other international partners.

Accordingly, information about rice cultivation in the country is eyed on the base of earth observation data of the Sentinel satellite data of European Aviation Safety Agency, and algorithm & model of Sarmap Company and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI).

Signals from satellites provision following a frequency of 6-12 days could define time for the cultivation as well as exactly calculate rice productivity up to 90-92 percent.
The remote sensing technology could evaluate damages of natural disaster, and support insurance activities to reduce damages for farmers etc etc…
