VN joins 72nd regular session of UN General Assembly

The 72nd regular session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72) on ocean and the United Nations convention on the law of the sea (UNCLOS) officially took place in the United States of America on December 5 (at New York time).

Reports of the Secretary-General of the United Nations relating to ocean and the United Nations convention on the law of the sea, as well as discussion about draft resolutions was under consideration at the session.  

Speaking at the discussion, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam to the United Nations Nguyen Phuong Nga affirmed that general and unanimous feature of UNCLOS.
On the occasion, she called on respect and mission adaptation of the member countries to ensure peace, stabilization and sustainable development of ocean and sea resources for benefits of human and future generations.

Relating to the East Sea issue, Ambassador Phuong Nga stressed that the East Sea is considered as not only place for earning fishermen’s living but also international maritime trade transport; therefore, peacekeeping and stabilization in the East Sea are for general benefits of region and the world. 

Vietnam and ASEAN countries called on the relevant parties to control and solve conflicts via peaceful measures and respect of international laws, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC).
