In the economic field, Vietnam-Guangdong trade has registered a growth rate of 30 percent a year since 2008. Bilateral trade reached 5.83 billion USD in 2010 and 3.56 billion USD in the first six months of this year.

Guangdong ’s major businesses have come to Vietnam for cooperation and business, however, economic, trade and investment ties between the two sides have not yet matched their potential.

To boost cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Guangdong , Secretary General Trong urged both sides to promote exchanges of delegations, helping increase mutual understanding and trust, and enhance cooperation in economics, trade, investment, science and technology.

The Vietnamese leader said he hoped the province would always pay attention to preserving Vietnamese historical and cultural relic sites in Guangdong as well as increase education, especially among youths, on the tradition of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.

In return, Weng Yang briefed Trong on the cooperation between his province and Vietnam , affirming his intention to attach importance to the General Secretary’s measures to enhance relations between the two countries.

The two sides should continue to work closely together to speed up the project on Shenzhen–Hai Phong economic, trade cooperation zone, Weng said, describing it as a symbolic cooperation area between the two localities.

If it performs well it would contribute to attracting firms from Guangdong to cooperate and invest in Vietnam , he said.

Guangdong is restructuring its economy and will encourage high-tech enterprises to invest in Vietnam , the provincial party secretary affirmed.

Later the day, General Secretary Trong and his entourage visited the historic area of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League in Guangzhou city, where the association, the precursor of the Vietnam Workers’ Party, was set up and issued policies and decisions for Vietnam ’s revolution path 80 years ago.

He laid a floral wreath and offered incense at martyr Pham Hong Thai’s grave at Huang Huagang cemetery in Guangzhou city.
