The Colombo plan is the shorten name of “The Colombo Plan for Cooperative Economic and Social Development in the Asia- Pacific region” which was conceived by the United Kingdom at the Commonwealth Conference on Foreign Affairs Ministers in Colombo (Sri Lanka) in January, 1950 and was officially put into operation in 1951.
Its target aims to help 27 member countries in socio-economic development, the poverty alleviation, environmental protection and gender equality.
Since Vietnam officially became a membership of the regional organization in 2003, the country has sent nearly 400 officials to join training courses of Colombo Plan’s cooperation programs as consultant programs about drug prevention, public administration, private economic development, reproductive health and environment.
