On September 18, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received Philipp Roesler, Germany’s Minister of Economics and Technology in Hanoi.
The Prime Minister expressed his appreciation of the strong ties between Vietnam and Germany in various fields, particularly after the two countries set up a strategic partnership in October 2011.
The PM stressed that the Vietnamese government will create advantageous conditions for German investors to implement their projects in Vietnam and give preferential treatment to enterprises that can carry out large-scale projects and build a model infrastructure in the country.
Earlier, German Minister Philipp Roesler held a working session with Bui Quang Vinh, Minister of Investment and Planning and attended the Vietnam-German Dialogue Forum in Hanoi on the same day.
Both ministers committed to boost bilateral cooperation and create advantageous conditions for investors of the two countries.
Germany has been one of Vietnam’s key partners in Europe. Two-way trade turnover reached US$5.6 billion in 2011 and is expected to touch $7 billion in coming times.
So far there are 184 German invested projects worth $900 million in the country. Germany ranks in 24th position from 95 countries with business interests in Vietnam.
German Minister Philipp Roesler said that Germany has been interested in cooperation with Vietnam in fields like energy, technology and health, and particularly in developing wholesale and retail trade.
Both ministers also witnessed the signing of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction and the German Schwäbisch Hall Home Savings and Loan Company, and a contract between the Vietnam Motor Industry Corporation and Siemens Vietnam Ltd. for manufacturing buses.
Germany’s Minister Philipp Roesler will travel to Ho Chi Minh City for a meeting with Vu Huy Hoang, Minister of Trade and Industry and take part in the Vietnam-German Economic Forum and inauguration of Vietnam-German High School and Vietnam-German Technological Center on September 19.
