Vientiane – Vung Ang railway project needs more than US$5 bilion

The Ministry of Transport of Vietnam on May 3 received a research outcome of the technical support project on Vientiane – Vung Ang railway.

Vientiane – Vung Ang railway is a key infrastructure project of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), linking Laos and Vietnam and intersecting at a point with the Singapore – Kunming (China) rail network which connects China with Singapore via Laos, Thailand and Malaysia.
The project has total length of 554.72 km, of which 102.7 km railway line is in Vietnam from Vung Ang seaport in the central province of Ha Tinh to Mu Gia mountain pass in the border of Vietnam and Laos in Quang Binh province .
Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) will provide non-refundable aid for the project.
The project has a total investment capital of about US$5.062 billion, including US$1.5 million coming from Vietnamese State budget.
