Under the four-stage project, the Van Phong International Trans-shipment Port (VTP) will be constructed in an area of 50 hectares with two wharfs capable of receiving 6,000-TEU ships (TEU or tonnes equivalent unit is a measure for container loads).

According to the plan, a capital investment of more than 2.9 trillion VND (183.4 million USD) will be needed to carry out the first stage, which will last until 2010.

Van Phong is one of the most suitable deep-water bays in Southeast Asia, in which Viet Nam's first international trans-shipment port will be constructed.
