UNICEF launches childen’s program "HCMC-smart child friendly city”

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has cooperated with Saigon Innovation Hub (SIHUB) under the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology and the municipal Department of Planning and Architecture to organize the summer program “Children Innovate: A Smart and Child Friendly City” on June 8.

The program includes 11 creative thinking workshops engaging 275 children (8 - 14 years old) to design and plan for smarter and more child-friendly areas of Ho Chi Minh City.
Finnish experts will instruct participating children to use basic urban planning materials, such as clay, wood, computers, sketchup and hololens to develop and express their ideas.
They will learn about design principles, design thinking, architecture, urban planning and build their skills.
The program is expected to give them with necessary 21st century skills, such as critical thinking, creativity, team work, collaboration and communications.
Children’s ideas and projects will be displayed in the week-long exhibition, Saigon Innovation Week in October.
The Department of Planning and Architecture highly appreciated the educational program. It can corporate practical contents to educate children on the city's urban environmental problems, likely flooding, pollution and others; and develop children's creativity towards sustainable and smart urban development.
The program is part of Ho Chi Minh City’s Child Friendly City Initiative Project (2017-2021). Each workshop lasts for 5 days with daily schedule from 9 AM to 4 PM.
