Traffic accidents kill 112 people in six days of Tet

Up to 177 traffic accidents happened across Vietnam in the first six days of the Lunar New Year (Tet) festival, which began on February 2, killing 112 people and injuring 150 others.

The figures represented decreases of 23.37 percent, 37.43 percent and 19.35 percent, respectively, according to the National Committee for Traffic Safety.
On the sixth day alone, or February 7, 15 people were killed and 40 others wounded in 32 road accidents, while one person was killed in the first railway accident since the beginning of the holiday.
Traffic police in provinces and cities handled over 2,000 cases of violation, collected fines totaling VND 990 million ($42,570) and seized 424 vehicles.
Meanwhile, 20 cases related to waterway traffic safety were dealt with, with fines of VND11 million being collected.
