The ‘Vietnam Child Fund’ has announced that it will strive for contributions of around VND50 billion ($2,375,000) from domestic and international sponsors to support disadvantaged children throughout the nation for this year.
The fund is managed by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and has so far raised VND31 billion ($1,472,500) in the first five months of the year from enterprises and individuals to support around 2,000 disadvantaged children throughout the nation, including VND8 billion ($380,000) for eye and mouth operations and to support children from low income families who are at risk of dropping out of school.
This year, the fund will select 1,200-2,000 extremely disadvantaged children until they are 18 years of age. The fund will also build shelters and preschools in remote districts, namely, Muong Lat in the northern province of Thanh Hoa and Ly Son Islet in the central province of Quang Ngai.
The fund also plans to build an entertainment park in the island district of Truong Sa.
In related news, the People’s Committee in the highland province of Lam Dong approved housing for more than 300 families who contributed towards the wars in the past.
The province will build new houses or repair run-down houses for these families, at an estimated cost of VND12,6 billion ($598,500) as each household will receive a bank account of VND50 million and repair costs of VND25 million.
Currently more than 35,000 such families live in the province and around 1,000 families have already been given support.
