Speaking at the 65th anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese Elderly Association (VEA) at the Ho Chi Minh Museum in Hanoi on June 6 Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, on behalf of the government and the Party, sent his warm greetings to elderly party veterans, Vietnamese heroic mothers and other senior citizens across Viet Nam.
The Party General Secretary praised the elderly for their contributions to the country's political arena, economic activities, science and technology field, culture and social affairs, defence, security and the construction of the political system. Especially, they have set up good models for the next generation to follow.
Under Ho Chi Minh’s thoughts and guidelines, the Vietnamese government and the Party have had special policies for elderly people.
At the tenth Party Congress, the Vietnamese governments reaffirmed in its political report that it will provide senior citizens with great care so that they can enjoy life and healthily live.
It also confirmed that the society should make use of their living and working experience as well as build up model families and help homeless elderly people overcome their difficulties.
The Party Chief pointed out that it is necessary to improve the implementation of the government’s policy. He also called on the entire Party and people to implement effectively the national action program on the elderly, helping local elderly associations better fulfill their tasks and bring Ho Chi Minh Thoughts on the elderly into life with greater achievements.
President Tran Duc Luong and General Vo Nguyen Giap sent flowers to the anniversary ceremony.
