The statue is of great spiritual significance as it helps teach the young generation on the nation's patriotism and defence, Most Venerable Thich Thanh Quyet, member of the Baddish Sangha Executive Councils' Standing Committee and Head of the project's management board said at the groundbreaking ceremony.

Vice Chairwoman of the Ha Noi People's Committe Ngo Thi Thanh Hang affirmed that construction of the statue is a junction between the present and the early age of national building.

The statue, to be build with donations by Buddhists, is expected to be completed in October 2010 to mark the 1,000th anniversary of Ha Noi's birthday.

The 9.9 meter high and13.5 meter wide bronze statue, weighed 60-70 tons, is the image of Thanh Giong ascending to the heaven on his steel horse after defeating Yin (Chinese) invaders, as legend said.
