A 50m stretch of the river bank slipped into the river in Thuong Phuoc 1 Commune taking with it a house belonging to Truong Van Quynh with all his worldly possessions.

Local authorities have dismantled four houses along the landslide area and are in the process of pulling down a few others as well.

Many other sections of the river bank in the commune are also highly prone as of now, and visible and long cracks have begun to occur. Relevant authorities are surveying the area to determine which households are in immediate danger, so as to relocate them to safer zones.

Ever since floods receded in Hong Ngu District, two severe landslides have swept away 13 houses.

The People’s Committee of Thuong Phuoc 1 Commune said that the evacuation process is impaired due to shortage of land for resettlement. Some of the households losing their homes in   landslides have temporarily shifted to homes of fellow residents.
