The Investigation Agency under the central province of Ha Tinh Police Department yesterday announced that they have temporarily halted Vietnam exit procedures to officials and staffs of South Korean Samsung C&T Company for the investigation of a scaffold collapse which killed 13 and injured 29 Vietnamese.
The accident occurred on the construction site of Taiwan-invested Formosa steel complex project in Vung Ang Economic Zone on March 25.
The Criminal Technical Institute under the Ministry of Public Security has sent a group of officials to examine the scene and assess technical problems to make clear the reason of the accident.
Ha Tinh Police has questioned and collected statements of some injured workers, the scaffold’s contractor International Manpower and Construction JSC (Nibelc) and Samsung C&T Company--the main contractor of the scaffold site.
On the same day, Ha Tinh General Hospital transferred two badly injured workers to Hanoi for treatment. Earlier the hospital had transported six patients to Bach Mai and Viet Duc Hospitals in the capital city.
At present, 14 workers are being treated at the Ha Tinh General Hospital and six others are in Ky Anh District General Hospital. Their health has gradually recovered.
Samsung C&T and Nibelc companies have announced to compensate VND350 million (US$16,000) for a dead worker in the scaffold collapse. They have also agreed to take care of the injured, pay treatment fees, and compensate for their losses.
