Sai Gon Newport inks US$219 port deal

The Sai Gon Newport Corporation has won a tender to operate the Cai Mep International container berth in southern Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province for 30 years as per a leasing contract with the Viet Nam Maritime Administration in Hanoi on December 30.

The Vietnam Maritime Administration and the Sai Gon Newport Corporation inked a US$219 port deal.

The Thi Vai-Cai Mep international port complex in the southern province of Ba Ria-Vung Tau’s Tan Thanh District was inaugurated in January, 2013 with total cost of VND13 trillion (US$ 617 million).

The project includes six construction packages. Cai Mep Container Berth, the most important work, with total cost of VND 6 trillion (US$285 million), comprises two piers totaling 600 meters to accommodate 110,000 container ships with about 600.000 TEUs per year.

The Sai Gon Newport Corporation has participated in and won the bidding round organized by the Vietnam Maritime Administration on September, 2013.
