The Nation Traffic Safety Committee said that while road accidents decreased, river accidents soared.
In April and four first months of the year, the number of traffic accidents, dead and injured people fell compared to same period last year, said the committee.
However, traffic accidents in river hiked drastically. In April, the country has 12 accidents in rivers, causing eight dead and three injured.
For the four first months, there have been 29 traffic accidents in river with 23 fatalities and four injuries.
The committee pointed out the cause of increasing number is due to increased violations in river traffic. Police in river traffic have penalized 84,665 violations collecting VND44.6 billion (US$ 2.1 million)
