Dinh Huy Tri, director of the Science Research Center at the park which is situated in Quang Binh Province, said yesterday that the tracks of many wolves had been found recently near the Eight-Volunteer-Youth Cave in Street No.20, or Quyet Thang as it also known.

Mr. Tri added that the red wolf was under threat of becoming extinct in the country.

Also near the cave recently, some forest rangers saw a Tibetan bear weighing around 100 kilograms. The animal has only one leg after losing the other to a poacher’s trap and is familiar to park staff.

In the past, some tourist guides reported that the bear had chased four of them though luckily no one was harmed.
