Rare fern found in Quang Binh

Management board of the Quang Binh's Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park yesterday announced that Polystichum quangbinhense is a rare threatened species which grows inside its cave systems.

Earlier, the Phong Nha- Ke Bang National Park in collaboration with the botanists of Vietnam National Museum of Nature and the United States Botanic Garden of Mitsuri co-surveyed, researched and collected samples for test.

Polystichum quangbinhense is similar to Dryopteridaceae which discovered in the height of 120 meters with humid environmental condition without lighting.

Currently, the cave species is discovered in Doi (Bat) Cave and So Dua Cave.

The threatened plant was listed the International Union for Conservation of Nature's (IUCN) Red Book in 2015.
