Quang Binh floods make thousands homeless

Thousands of people in Quang Binh Province’s Tan Hoa commune have left caves in a nearby mountain to come back home. However, flash floods triggered by heavy last week damaged many houses, a lot of people have become moneyless and homeless.

After several days fighting with the flood, many have been exhausted due to lack of food, coldness and illnesses.

Currently, residents’ lives in the Tan Hoa commune depend on quantity of relief supplies mainly instant noodles.

Although the water lever is decreasing, the whole commune is still like a lake with hundreds of sinking roofs.

Cao Xuan Luc, chairman of Tam Hoa commune People’s Committee said all households lost rice, corn, which are reserved to fight against hungry and hardships during several months.

Thousands of cattle and pigs were immerged by flood, Luc said.

Flash floods in Central Viet Nam have claimed up to 66 lives, left 17 people missing and injured another 75, according to the Central Steering Committee for Flood and Storm Control.

Quang Binh Province was hardest hit. Several districts were reported to be under water, including more than 6,300ha of residential areas. About 100,000 people are said to be suffering from a lack of clean water.
