A national meeting of war veterans, martyrs, wounded soldiers and heroic mothers took place in Da Nang on July 7, attended by State President Truong Tan Sang and more than 400 representatives.
The meeting was a reminder of the heroism of private citizens and the people’s armed forces, who overcame obstacles to be able to live a better and more meaningful life after the war.
Nguyen Duy No, a war veteran who has been suffering from toxic chemical infection, has formed a production unit for making building material that provides jobs for many people in Thanh Hoa Province. He has donated hundreds of millions of dongs to build charity houses and offers gifts and scholarships for disadvantaged people and students.
Dang Thi Bay, a wounded soldier, who took part in the country’s revolution at the age of 15, has donated money that he saved over the last 12 years to build 144 graves for martyrs in the Mekong Delta province of Dong Thap.
The Government has now launched programs and preferential treatment policies that will benefit war martyrs, wounded and sick soldiers, revolutionaries and their relatives, said State President Truong Tan Sang at the meeting.
According of the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, around VND1.236 billion has been distributed to build charity houses, support wounded and sick soldiers and help disaster victims.
