The requirement was made after thể media reported that tens of new fishing boats under the decree have been rusty and damaged shortly after being launched in the central provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen and some others.
According to the PM’s requirements, the ministry should clarify the low quality boats as per reports by the public and press agencies recently and report results to him in August.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is responsible for closely working with the Public Security Ministry to carry out the mission.
At a regular cabinet meeting on July 3, chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man proposed the Government to review the quality of boats built for fishermen under Decree 67. They have been reported low quality and unable to go out to sea.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has suggested the PM to consider Binh Dinh province’s proposal to criminally investigate the case.
Government Decree 67 was issued in 2014 to boost the development of fisheries, including a program on building high-capacity, steel boats for deep sea fishing. Fishermen must be approved by local people's committees to be able to benefit from the program.
