PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc visits New Zealand and Australia

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife led a high- ranking delegation to respectively pay official visits to New Zealand and Australia from March 11- 14 as well as join ASEAN- Australia Special Summit from March 14- 18.

The tournament aims to tighten further cooperation relations between Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia- who are three important members of Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP)- the world’s third largest free trade agreement. 


Vietnam strengthens further relationship with New Zealand

Cooperation ties between Vietnam and New Zealand has blossomed in the recent years. The partner considered Vietnam as an important factor of policies in Asia- Pacific region. In 2009, the two nations established the comprehensive partnership, and maintained a bilateral defense dialogue mechanism and visits of naval ships.

The first official visit of PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc takes place amid the good friendship and cooperation relations between Vietnam and New Zealand contributes to deepen the comprehensive partnership and creates new cooperation opportunities between the two countries in near future. 

New Zealand is Vietnam’s 31st largest trade partner with two- way trade turnover up to more than US$ 900 million in 2017. Both sides closely collaborated and supported each other in signing the CPTPP and desired to continue strengthening the comprehensive partnership as well as raise the ties up to the strategical partnership. 

This occasion is considered as a favorable chance to boost and strengthen mutual political belief, create a strong foundation to deepen the cooperation ties in accordance with the orientations of the Viet Nam - New Zealand Action Plan for the period 2017-2020.

 

Vietnam and Australia upgrade strategic partnership

After New Zealand, the high- ranking delegation of Vietnam will begin an official visit to Australia and join the ASEAN- Australia Special Summit from March 14- 18. 

The visit marks an important millstone in the history of upgrading the ties to the strategic partnership on the occasion of the 45th establishment anniversary of Vietnam and Australia diplomatic ties. 

Australia is Vietnam's biggest trade partner in the Southern Hemisphere with bilateral trade turnover hitting US$ 6.5 billion (according to Vietnam data).

Each year, Australia gives about US$ 70.7 million aid to Vietnam; and the country always considers Vietnam as a key partner in ASEAN and the two countries well cooperated at the regional and international forums such as the East Asia Summit (EAS), the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and the United Nations.

The ASEAN- Australia Special Summit focusing on improving security and prosperity within the region aims to reaffirm Australia's commitment to foster the strategic partnerships with ASEAN in the new stage.

Vietnam will actively contribute and closely collaborate with Australia and member countries of ASEAN to ensure success of the ASEAN- Australia Special Summit, propose important development orientations for the ASEAN-Australia partnership in the new period.
