Over 5 tons of pangolin scales seized at Cai Mep int’l port

The Southern region’s anti-smuggling and investigation team under the General Department of Customs yesterday discovered and made a record seizure of more than 5.2 tons of illegal pangolin scales at Cai Mep International Port Terminal in coastal province of Ba Ria- Vung Tau. 

Accordingly, the functional forces discovered 151 bags with total weight of 5,264 kilograms inside two 40-foot containers, which were imported by the Nam Ha Services Trading Company. 

The containers were shipped by Maersk Cape Coast from Nigeria to Cai Mep International Port Terminal. 

According to the convention on international trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora (CITES), the pangolin scale is one of the products being not allowed to import or export.
