Ornamental Plant and Vegetable Research Center for Da Lat

The People’s Committee of Lam Dong Province, the Hanoi University of Agriculture and the Province of East Flanders in Belgium have signed a memorandum to establish an Ornamental Plant and Vegetable Research Center in Da Lat city.

The center will be a research, technology and training hub for the growth of ornamental plants and vegetables. It aims will be to develop production, distribution and apply safe technology for high-quality crops grown in the fine environment of this highland region for local and export markets.

Marc De Buck, the Deputy Governor of the Province of East Flanders, said that the cooperation program would focus on the education and training sector, develop safe harvests, control water and energy, monitor crop plant protection and stabilize production and development in accordance with environmental and market quality requirements.

The central highland province of Lam Dong and the Province of East Flanders have similar climates and soil. Both provinces are leading high-quality vegetable providers in their countries.

The Ornamental Plant and Vegetable Research Center is expected to be set up by the end of 2012 and will be in operation in 2015.
