The incident was caused by the province-based Taiwanese Hung Nghiep Formosa Iron and Steel Company.
The information was disclosed by chairwoman of the Ha Tinh Inspection Committee Nguyen Thi Gai on Friday.
The decision came after the committee conducted inspections on activities of Formosa’s iron and steel complex and Son Duong deep-water port in the province’s Vung Ang economic zone.
The five officials that will receive disciplinary measures are Vo Ta Dinh, director of the province’s environmental department; Pham Van Tinh, deputy director of the province’s construction department; Dang Van Thah and Hoang Thanh Tung, deputy heads of the province’s economic zone management board; and Ngo Dinh Van, former deputy head of the board.
Five other officials will have to make self-criticism, namely Tran Xuan Tien, director of the province’s construction department; Phan Lam Son and Nguyen Hung Manh, deputy directors of the province’s environmental department; and Pham Tran De and Phan Thang Long, deputy heads of the province’s economic zone management board.
