Nguyen Thanh Hoa prosecuted, detained on charge of organising gambling

The public security investigation agency, Phu Tho province's public security department, has issued a decision on starting legal proceedings against and an arrest warrant for a four-month detention of Nguyen Thanh Hoa, former Director of the Hi-tech Crime Police Department, on the charge of organising gambling, the Ministry of Public Security announced on March 11.

Nguyen Thanh Hoa, born 1958 in Binh Dinh province and currently residing in Hanoi, is a former Major General of the People's Public Security Force and former Director of the Hi-tech Crime Police Department (C50) under the Ministry of Public Security. 

According to the announcement, pursuant to the decision on initiating criminal proceedings on the use of internet to commit the acts of appropriation of property, organisation of gambling, gambling, illegal trading of receipts and money laundering in Phu Tho province and some other provinces and cities; based on the results of investigation, the public security investigation agency under Phu Tho province's public security department issued Decision 09 on the prosecution of and Arrest Warrant 205 for a four-month detention of Nguyen Thanh Hoa on the charge of organising gambling under clause 2, Article 249 of the 1999 Penal Code. 

The decision and warrant have been approved by the People's Procuracy at the same level 

Earlier the same day, the State President signed a decision to strip Nguyen Thanh Hoa of the title People's Public Security officer. 

The public security investigation agency, Phu Tho province's public security department is conducting further investigation into the case to clarify the liabilities of involved parties for strict and fair punishment in line with the law.

Also the same day, the Party Central Committee Secretariat convened a meeting on March 11 under the chair of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to listen to reports on the case.

 The Secretariat were of the view that this was a very serious, complicated and sensitive case of an especially large scale involving hi-technology. The case involved numerous sectors, localities, and individuals, including members of the public security force, and has drawn special public attention.

They noted that the Police Party Central Committee and leaders of the Ministry of Public Security had proactively instructed their units and the Phu Tho provincial police to start criminal proceedings and investigation on the case, and report the initial results to the Secretariat.

The Secretariat asked the Police Party Central Committee to collaborate with competent agencies to direct further investigation into the case, clarify the liabilities of involved parties, and handle the case in a strict, impartial and accurate manner in conformity with the law and regulations of the Party and State.
