Many deputies applauded the legal system for completing its assigned tasks. They spoke in reference to a report on the legal system's operations during the 13th NA tenure (2011-2016).

During the period, courts nationwide handled nearly 1.8 million cases, equivalent to 98.5 per cent of total cases they received.

However, NA Committee for Ethnic Minority Affairs Chairman Ksor Phuoc said the report should also focus on fighting corruption and clarifying the role of the courts' judgement in anti-corruption education.

NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung asked members of the legal system to discuss lessons learnt from their activities and assess results achieved by the sector.

Discussing reports on the operation of the people's procuracy sector over the past five years, Hung said the report should focus on reviewing the sector's activities to learn how to improve in the next term.

Based on these opinions, the two draft reports will be completed and submitted to the NA for consideration during its meeting next month.

Addressing the closing ceremony, Hung said during the week-long session, the deputies discussed and gave opinions on preparations for the upcoming 11th meeting of the 13th NA, scheduled to open on March 21.

The meeting would focus on some key issues, including law-building, socio-economic development plans and reviews of operations for the 13th tenure of the NA, he said.

The session also gave opinions on draft working reports from the Government, Prime Minister, President, Prosecutor General of the People's Supreme Procuracy, Chief Justice of the Supreme People's Court and Auditor General of the State Audit Office of Viet Nam for the 2011-2016 term.

It considered a proposal to amend the Programme on Law Building and Ordinance Building 2016, and draft reports on acquiring feedback on the revised Law on Journalism; Law on Child Protection, Care and Education; and Pharmacy Law.
