Accordingly, with this speed, it is estimated that most of households will be able to use clean water by 2032.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment said that with the World Water Day (March 22) has themed “Water for all by 2030. This means leaving no one behind”. This manifested the UN’s commitment that for the sustainable development, no one is left behind.
For years, Vietnam is recognized to make great efforts in resolving water issue. By June, 2017, the rate of households getting access to tap water was 84.5 percent, 1 percent higher than 2016 and the proportion of lost water was 23 percent, down by 0.5 percent compared to 2016.
However, within seven years from 2010 to 2016, the rate of households getting access to clean water source have risen from 90.5 percent to 93.4 percent. In 2016, 64.2 percent of industrial parks have standard solid waste and wastewater meanwhile 54 percent of hospital have wastewater discharge system.
By 2017, 41 wastewater discharge treatment plant have been operated with the total capacity of 950,000 cubic meters a day. Around 50 wastewater treatment plants have been designed with total capacity of 2.2 million cubic meters a day.
Of 781 urbans, just 44 have standard wastewater treatment system; hence, it is highly unlikely that target of all wastewater discharge could be treated by 2030.
