The Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has submitted the networks’ plans to the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), which will be implemented in February if approved.

The decision by MobiFone and VinaPhone to lower fees came in reaction to Viettel’s new policy of reducing costs for pre-paid and post-paid subscribers, by 20 and 15 percent respectively, from January 1 this year.

Once the ministry approves the plan, MobiPhone and VinaPhone will charge post-paid subscribers VND780 per minute. Viettel now charges its post-paid subscribers VND790 per minute including VAT.

January 31 is also the deadline for all phone subscribers to register their personal information with their service providers, according to MIC regulations.

MobiPhone said it has completed registration for all of its subscribers, while VinaPhone said around 2,000 of its pre-paid subscribers would be prevented from calling out and performing other actions if they do not register by the end of the month.

Viettel, meanwhile, has around 30,000 pre-paid subscribers who have not yet registered as required by law, said Nguyen Viet Dung, deputy director of Viettel.
