MLC focuses on management cooperation & efficiency use of Mekong River's water resource

The second Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting (MLC) was successfully closed after the two- working days in Cambodian city of Siem Reap.

The second Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers' Meeting (MLC) was successfully closed after the two- working days in Cambodian city of Siem Reap.

Attending the meeting were foreign affairs leaders from six member countries through Mekong River as China, Myanmar, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Vietnam. 

At the conference, the leaders reviewed active results as well as achievements of the Mekong-Lancang cooperation in the previous time such as cooperation contents about security, policy, economy and sustainable development, culture, society and people exchange; and five priority cooperation sectors as water resource, production ability, connection, economic and agricultural cooperation, poverty reduction..

In the upcoming years, the leaders will unanimously plan for Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Funds, and assisting cooperation projects between the countries.

Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister Pham Binh Minh stressed that Mekong-Lancang cooperation needs to focus on strengthening management cooperation, sustainable use for Mekong River’s water resource, balance the benefit as well as responsibility between the member countries. Besides, the nations should support further each other for big scale infrastructure, investment and trade projects.
