Mid-autumn Festival organized for city’s disadvantaged children

At the Cultural House in Ho Chi Minh City, Youth Communist Union, the Cultural House and Youth Film Company, NAHI Company Vietnam and companies organized mid-autumn festival for the city’s disadvantaged children on September 20.

Over 2,500 children from orphan houses which orphans and street children reside and children of low-income staffs of state-owned companies under the management of Youth Communist Union who excel in studying gathered at the festival.

The festival also gave 33 scholarships to children from meager-income families but excel in learning.

Additionally, other 30 scholarships of an English course were given to children of staffs in Youth Communist union’s companies.

In related news, Sai Gon Giai Phong newspaper and the Youth Communist Union September 20 gave presents to children from poor families in Dinh Thuy Commune in Mo Cay Nam District of the Mekong delta province of Ben Tre.

Representatives from SGGP newspaper gave 100 gifts each worth VND200,000 (US$8.9) to children in 4 communes Dinh Thuy, Binh Khanh Dong, Binh Khanh Tay and Phuoc Hiep.

Also in Ho Chi Minh City, on September 19, in Rach Mieu Sport Club, Labor Union for staff and Youth Commune Union organized Mid-Autumn festival for disabled children who are children of staffs in state companies and laborers and needy children but excel in learning.

Over 1,000 children partook in the festival. They played folk games, painting statues, watched how to make a balloon, circus, magic trick, dragon dance. They were also given gifts including moon cakes, lantern, dairy products and confectionery.

This year festival is the 10th festival organized the union aiming to take care of children of staffs of state companies and laborers. On this occasion, the union also gave 10 scholarships named Nguyen Huu Canh to needy and good students. Each scholarship is worth VND1 million – VND2 million (US$44.50 –US$89).

In addition, 33 disabled children and victims of Orange Agent received VND1 million as an allowance.

On the same day, the management board of Cultural-Historical Park in HCMC’s district 9 held a festival for 500 disadvantaged children in district 2, 9, Thu Duc and Di An Town of the southern province of Binh Duong. Children were given gifts and partook in folk games, musical performance, and lantern-making competition.

Labor unions in industrial and export processing zones also organized mid-autumn festivals for 500 children of workers in Linh Trung Export Processing Zone.
